Ancient and contemporary Indian, Hispanic and Anglo traditions of pilgrimage, healing and worship have centered in the Chimayo Valley of northern New Mexico for over five hundred years. In her book, Elizabeth Kay describes these beliefs and rites, tracing their history from Tewa Indian lore and historic Spanish documents, to works by 20th century writers and artists. She recounts folklore associated with Chimayo's famous healing shrine, El Santuario de Esquipulas, the nearby Medina chapel, the local Santo Niño de Atocha cult, and associated traditional and current pilgrimages. Illustrated by the author. Elizabeth Kay is an artist and writer who has lived in the Chimayo area for many years. Originally published by Ancient City Press, Santa Fe, NM. (ISBN 0-941270-35-1)
